The use of beta-glucuronidase as a measure of pleural irritation.

چکیده
It has been shown that the enzyme Beta-Glucuronidase Is present in the fluid which develops in the pleural cavity during certain diseases.’ Whether this enzyme occurs as a result of migration through the pleura from the blood, or whether it Is secreted by the epithelium lining the pleural cavity has not been determined. In our studies at this hospital on pleural effusions, we have assayed Beta-Glucuronidase activity on the fluid before and after administration of therapeutic agents, in order to determine the effect that the drug has had on the enzyme level. The substances used were: (1) Streptokinase-Streptodornase (SK-SD) (2) Trypsin (Tryptar) (3) Hyaluronidase (4) Streptomycmn (5) Penicillin (6) Para-aminosalicylic Acid (PAS) (7) Methylene blue.

Usefulness of monitoring beta-glucuronidase in pleural effusions.
BACKGROUND The objective of the study was to evaluate the additional value of beta-glucuronidase (BGD), a lysosomal enzyme in the analysis of transudative and exsudative pleural effusions, especially between malignant and non-malignant effusions. DESIGN AND METHODS Pleural fluid samples obtained from four respective diagnostic groups: transudates parapneumonic effusions, malignant effusions o...
متن کاملUSE OF CHOLESTEROL IN THE DIFFERENTIATION OF EXUDATIVE AND TRANSUDATIVE PLEURAL EFFUSION
Light's criteria (protein and LDH) have been used to the present to differentiate exudative pleural effusion from transudative. This is both time consuming and relatively more expensive as compared to measuring cholesterol. During 1992-1993, a prospective study on 70 patients with effusion was carried out measuring fasting LDH, protein, cholesterol, alkaline phosphatase and glucose. All pa...

Background & Aim: Pleural effusion is seen in the background of many diseases, two major groups of which are tuberculosis and malignancies. At present pleural biopsy helps us differentiate these two causes from each other, but it is not only an invasive method but also an expensive one.
